Introduced on March 31, 2025 by Ted Lieu
This bill would set one national rule for encryption. It blocks states and cities from forcing tech companies to weaken security or build “back doors” that let government agencies spy on users or search devices. It also stops states and cities from requiring companies to keep a way to decode your encrypted data, or from banning products just because they use strong encryption. In short, it protects the right to offer and use secure devices, apps, and online services without state or local governments demanding special access to your data.
