This bill would stop the federal government from spending any money to run the Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) program, or anything like it. DED is a policy some presidents have used since 1990 to delay deportation for certain groups when their home countries are unsafe, and it can include permission to work and sometimes travel. The bill says no federal funds, resources, or fees may be used to implement or carry out DED or any successor program, for any fiscal year. The findings explain that DED has been used for nationals of places like China, El Salvador, Haiti, Liberia, Venezuela, Palestine, Hong Kong, and Lebanon, and that DED recipients can receive work permits similar to those under Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
