This bill tells the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to update its rules to better protect patients from unintended radiation during nuclear medicine procedures. If a radioactive drug leaks out of a vein into nearby tissue during an injection (called an extravasation) and gives a very high dose to a small area of tissue or skin, the event must be reported. The update adds clear dose limits so serious cases are not missed (for experts: 0.5 Sv/50 rem to the most‑exposed small tissue volume or skin area).
