Promoting Precision Agriculture Act

This act aims to make high‑tech farming tools easier to use and more secure. It tells the Department of Agriculture to work with experts to create voluntary standards so different farm equipment and software can connect, share data, and protect against cyber risks. The goal is to cut waste, save time, and help more farms adopt precision agriculture tools.

USDA must consider things like internet and wireless needs on farms, cybersecurity, and how artificial intelligence may be used. It must also coordinate with state and local governments and trusted private‑sector partners. These standards are not mandates; they are meant to make adoption simpler and cheaper.

• Who is affected: Farmers and ranchers using precision tools, equipment and software makers, and tech and communications providers that serve rural areas.
• What changes: New voluntary standards to help devices work together, improve security, and plan for the use of AI in agriculture.
• When: USDA has up to two years after the law takes effect to set the standards. The Government Accountability Office will review them one year later and then every two years for eight years, reporting findings to Congress.
