Referred to the Committee on Ways and Means, and in addition to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
This proposal would block the federal government from putting new staffing rules on nursing homes into effect. It would stop the Health and Human Services Department from carrying out a 2024 rule that set minimum nurse staffing levels and added reporting on how Medicaid dollars are paid to frontline workers in these facilities. The blocked rule included having a nurse onsite 24/7, at least 3.48 total nursing hours per resident per day, and new state reports on payments to direct care and support staff in nursing homes and certain disability care facilities.
If passed, the stop would begin as soon as the law takes effect, meaning those staffing standards and reporting requirements would not be enforced.
