SEC. 1. Short title
- This Act may be cited as the Rural Weather Monitoring Systems Act.
SEC. 2. Study of rural weather monitoring systems
- (a) In general
- Not later than 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General of the United States shall submit to the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, and the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation in the Senate a study of rural weather monitoring systems.
- (b) Contents
- The study required under subsection (a) shall include information relating to the following:
- The capacity of current rural weather monitoring systems.
- The geographical differences in availability and effectiveness of rural weather monitoring systems.
- The availability of resources for rural areas to produce better weather monitoring systems.
- The number of rural areas affected by unreliable or unavailable accurate rural weather monitoring systems.
- The need for updated weather monitoring for rural areas.
- The barriers that rural areas face obtaining and upgrading rural weather reporting systems.
- The study required under subsection (a) shall include information relating to the following:
