Referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
This bill tells the U.S. Department of Transportation, working with the Coast Guard and the Defense Department, to study how safe the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan are, and what would happen to the U.S. supply chain if the locks break down or fail. They must deliver a report within one year. The report must point out any security gaps, possible threats, how a failure would affect the region and the country, and what changes (with cost estimates) could make the locks safer and reduce any supply chain disruptions.
Why it matters: The Soo Locks are a key link for moving goods. This study is meant to spot risks early and lay out concrete steps to protect the locks and keep goods moving if something goes wrong.
