This legislation updates how hunting, fishing, trapping, and animal gathering rights are set for the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community in Oregon. It lets the tribe and the state work together to change or replace the existing rules. Until both sides agree on something new, the 1986 Grand Ronde Hunting and Fishing Agreement stays in place . It also lets the tribe and Oregon ask a federal court to change or end a 1987 court order that had locked in the earlier rules, and the court can review the request even though there was a past decision .
Any new or updated agreement cannot change treaty or other rights of this tribe or any other tribe, cannot stop Oregon from making separate agreements with other tribes, and cannot be used in court to change any tribe’s treaty rights. If a new agreement is made, the tribe’s rights under that agreement come from Oregon’s state authority .
