This bill lets the Bay Mills Indian Community in Michigan sell, lease, or place a mortgage or other claim on land the tribe owns that is not held in federal trust, without needing extra approvals. It does not change any rules for land that the United States holds in trust for the tribe. The bill also says the federal government isn’t responsible for any losses from these land deals unless the U.S. is part of the deal or another law says otherwise .
