This bill would pause making pennies and nickels for 10 years to save money. Stores and people could still use the coins they already have; pennies and nickels would remain legal to pay with. The Mint could still make special collector versions, but those would be sold to cover their full costs.
It also orders a government study within 3 years to check how the pause is working, how much money it saves, and what happens if cash prices are rounded to the nearest 10 cents. The study will recommend whether to keep the pause, end it for good, or start making the coins again.
