Referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and in addition to the Committee on Education and Workforce, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
This bill tells the Departments of Health and Human Services and Labor to study current federal grants that support the nursing workforce and deliver a report with recommendations. The report must look at how to train and hire more nurse faculty (especially in underserved areas), help experienced nurses (10+ years) move into teaching, and create stronger paths for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) to become registered nurses (RNs). The report is due within one year after the law takes effect, and it may guide future changes to grant programs to ease nursing shortages and improve training capacity.
