Referred to the Committee on Education and Workforce, and in addition to the Committees on Agriculture, and Energy and Commerce, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
This measure orders the Government Accountability Office to study how state agencies that run WIC, SNAP, and Medicaid can share data and work together to help more eligible families enroll in WIC. The report must be sent to Congress within 180 days after the law takes effect.
The study will look at whether data sharing can make WIC sign-ups easier; how often states already share SNAP and Medicaid data with WIC; where application questions overlap; whether regular cross‑agency meetings and adding WIC checks to online SNAP/Medicaid applications would help; the role of nonprofits in WIC sign‑ups; and what it might cost states if data sharing is required. This bill directs a study and report; it does not change benefits or eligibility by itself.
