Ms. WASSERRMAN SCHULTZ. Mr. Speaker, I rise to honor the service of retired Army Sergeant Kersandra Elaine Brooks of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Sergeant (E-5) Kersandra Elaine Brooks, also known as “Sarge,” enlisted in the United States Army in 1979. During her service, she provided support for Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm and served with the United States Customs Service on the “Drug War” team. “Sarge” acquired vital skills through military operations specialist training, where she was trained in administration, telecommunications, signal corps, mortuary services, and “Top Driver.” She has received numerous awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, and the Expert Shooter Badge with M16 Rifle Bar, a U.S. military marksmanship decoration awarded to personnel who achieve the highest level of shooting proficiency.

and earned a bachelor's degree from Broward Community College. She remains active in the community, serving and helping others with compassion and grace. As a veteran, she works to provide other veterans with information and resources to assist them and their families. As a 40-year breast cancer survivor, she helps to raise awareness and funds for a variety of breast cancer and other charitable organizations. “Sarge” has one daughter, Michelle, and three grandchildren: Demariyah, Demiyah, and Denorah.
Truly an inspiration, “Sarge” is known for her kind and generous spirit and her legacy of service to our country and community. I am fortunate and proud to call Kersandra “Sarge” Brooks my dear friend, and I ask all who know and love “Sarge” to join me in wishing her a very happy, healthy, and heartfelt 70th birthday.
