Mr. FIELDS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor St. James Episcopal Church, founded in 1844 and presently led by Reverend Christopher Duncan. This venerable house of worship stands as a striking example of Gothic Revival architecture, with its graceful spire and stained-glass windows enduring as a cherished landmark in Baton Rouge for more than 180 years.
St. James Episcopal Church's remarkable history is marked by resilience, having survived devastating tornadoes, outbreaks of yellow fever, the Battle of Baton Rouge, Civil War occupation, and years of Reconstruction. Through each challenge, the church not only preserved its structure but deepened its role as a haven of faith and hope for countless families.
For generations, St. James Episcopal Church has fostered unity, compassion. and spiritual guidance, offering a sanctuary for worship and community service. Its outreach efforts and steadfast ministry have uplifted parishioners and neighbors alike, providing comfort in times of crisis and celebration during moments of joy.
