Readable version of the official text

The Chaplain, the Reverend Margaret Grun Kibben, offered the

following prayer:

Such a claim You have on us, holy God, creator of the universe, You

who have fashioned the Earth and all that dwells therein, You who have given us breath and spirit that we may enjoy the world You have made.

You only ask that we live in righteousness, that we remain close to

You and abide in Your love alone.

You only require us to remain faithful to the covenant You have made

with us, to be a light to the nations, to open the eyes of the blind, and to release the captives from the darkness of their prisons.

You only expect that we commit this day and all of our days to You, O

Lord, and to Your service.

As You have claimed us, may we claim Your name and be faithful to it,

that You would be glorified among all the peoples.

Amen.
