Legislation Details
- Amends the State Justice Institute Act of 1984 to authorize the State Justice Institute to provide awards to certain organizations for establishing a State judicial threat intelligence and resource center.
- Defines an “eligible organization” as a national nonprofit with expertise in judicial security and safety, courthouse design standards, understanding of State judicial operations, and experience working with various court systems.
- Authorizes financial and technical support for eligible organizations to:
- Provide technical assistance and training on judicial security.
- Proactively monitor threats to the safety of State and local judges and court staff.
- Coordinate with law enforcement agencies to mitigate threats.
- Develop standardized incident reporting and threat evaluation practices.
- Create a national database for reporting, tracking, and sharing information about threats.
- Coordinate research on best practices around judicial security.
- Requires the State Justice Institute to submit an annual report to the Senate and House Judiciary Committees on the number of threats against judiciary members and court staff, including a breakdown of threat types and seriousness.
