Legislation Details

  • Amends title 18, United States Code, to change when the lobbying prohibition period starts for former Members of Congress.
  • For Senators, the lobbying prohibition period will start upon the expiration of the term for which they were elected or appointed, replacing the current language that starts the clock when they leave office.
  • For Members of the House, the lobbying prohibition period will also start upon the expiration of the term for which they were elected, amending the current rule that begins when they leave office.
  • The bill is named the “Don’t Quit to Lobby Act.”
  • The changes will apply to individuals who leave the office of Senator, Representative, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner to Congress on or after the enactment date of this Act.
