Amends title XVIII of the Social Security Act regarding Medicare coverage.
Requires suppliers to provide specific information about breast reconstruction surgery to individuals undergoing mastectomy.
Mandates that individuals be informed that breast reconstruction surgery is covered under Medicare after a medically necessary mastectomy.
Suppliers must document the provision of this information in the individual’s medical record.
Payment for mastectomy services will not be made unless the information is provided and documented.
The requirement takes effect one year after the enactment of the legislation.
