Continues funding for the IMPROVE initiative through the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
Aims to:
Advance research to reduce preventable causes of maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity.
Reduce disparities in maternal health outcomes related to race, ethnicity, geography, and socioeconomic status.
Improve health for pregnant and postpartum individuals.
Focuses on understanding the various factors affecting maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity to build an evidence base for improved care.
Targets health disparities by:
Implementing and evaluating community-based interventions.
Identifying risk factors and underlying biological mechanisms associated with leading causes of maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity, including cardiovascular disease, infection and immunity, vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, and mental and behavioral health.
Allows the Director of the Institute to award grants or enter into contracts to carry out the initiative, including with researchers from racial and ethnic minority groups.
Authorizes an appropriation of $53,400,000 annually for fiscal years 2025 through 2031 to support the initiative.
