Recognizes the 40th anniversary of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Founded by John and Reve Walsh after the tragic abduction and murder of their son, Adam.
Established as a nonprofit organization to locate missing children and combat child sexual exploitation.
Designated as the national resource center and clearinghouse for missing children by the Missing Children’s Assistance Act in 1984.
Collaborates with various law enforcement agencies to locate missing children and respond to child sexual exploitation reports.
Assisted in the recovery of over 448,000 children and received 200 million reports of suspected child sexual exploitation over 40 years.
Operates a 24-hour call center that has received more than 5.6 million calls since its inception.
Launched the CyberTipline in 1998 to report online sexual exploitation, receiving 200 million reports to date.
Introduced the “Take It Down” tool in 2023 to help victims remove explicit content from the internet.
Reauthorized by the Missing Children’s Assistance Reauthorization Act of 2023 to perform 16 programs, including locating missing children and providing community safety education.
Commends the ongoing efforts of NCMEC to protect children and prevent victimization.
