The legislation mandates the Secretary of the Treasury to mint commemorative coins honoring Roberto Clemente.
It recognizes Clemente’s contributions as a baseball player and humanitarian.
The coins will include:
$5 gold coins (up to 50,000 minted).
$1 silver coins (up to 400,000 minted).
Half-dollar clad coins (up to 750,000 minted).
The coins will be legal tender and considered numismatic items.
Designs must reflect Clemente’s life, including his activism and baseball achievements, with at least one design featuring his image.
The coins will be issued in uncirculated and proof qualities during a one-year period starting January 1, 2027.
Sale prices will include face value, surcharges, and production costs.
Surcharges will be allocated to the Roberto Clemente Foundation for educational, youth sports, and disaster relief initiatives.
The legislation ensures that minting and issuing the coins will not incur net costs to the U.S. Government.
