Establishes the Historic Naval Ship Preservation Grant Program within the Department of the Interior.
Aims to support the conservation and preservation of historic military vessels for public education and inspiration.
The program will be administered by the Secretary of the Interior, in consultation with the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense.
Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis to eligible entities for:
Physical upkeep and repair of historic military vessels.
Mitigating environmental hazards or damage to the vessels.
Implementing education and workforce development programs related to military maritime careers.
Eligible entities include state or local governments and private nonprofit organizations that manage covered sites.
Organizations must submit an application to be considered for grants.
Authorizes $5,000,000 in appropriations for fiscal year 2025 and subsequent years to support the program.
Defines “covered site” as venues providing public access to or displaying historic military vessels.
Defines “historic military vessel” as decommissioned vessels owned by the Department of Defense, Coast Guard, or designated by the Department of Transportation.
