Legislation Details

Amends the REAL ID Act of 2005 to give states the authority to decide whether to require gender or sex identification on driver’s licenses and other forms of ID.
Removes the existing requirement for a gender or sex field in identification documents.
Allows states that choose to include a gender or sex field to permit individuals to self-designate their gender without needing additional documentation (e.g., a doctor’s note).
Requires states to provide an option for unspecified or other designations in addition to male or female if they include a gender or sex field.
Includes a technical amendment related to the Court Security Improvement Act of 2007 to update references to the amended sections.
