This bill expands a federal benefits program for public safety officers to include some retired law enforcement officers. If a retired officer is killed or becomes permanently and totally disabled because of a targeted attack linked to their past police service, their case can qualify for benefits under the program. A “retired law enforcement officer” means someone who left a public agency in good standing, whether they were paid or not .
