This plan would put a full‑time safety inspector on site at any commercial nuclear power plant that has shut down. The inspector would watch over cleanup and the move of used nuclear fuel from cooling pools into safer dry storage. The inspector stays until all the used fuel is moved out of the pools. If there’s a pause and no work is happening, the agency can assign the inspector to other tasks until work starts again. This is meant to keep communities safe while plants are taken apart and fuel is handled and stored.
