This bill tells the Secretary of Defense to study how many small arms and light weapons, and their parts, used by U.S. service members come from outside the United States or from U.S. companies that are owned by foreign parents. Within 180 days of the law taking effect, the Secretary must send a report to Congress and the President with recommendations on buying weapons that are fully made in the U.S. by companies that are owned and controlled by people in the U.S.. The bill uses the federal definition of “small arms and light weapons” from 32 CFR 273.3.
