Designates August 17, 2025, as National Nonprofit Day and formally recognizes the role, size, economic contribution, and community value of nonprofit organizations and nonprofit workers across the United States. The resolution states facts about the nonprofit sector (number of organizations, employment, share of GDP, and that most are small, community-based) and expresses support for recognizing a day to highlight their contributions.
There are 1,300,000 nonprofits across the United States that feed, heal, shelter, educate, nurture, and inspire people of all ages.
Nonprofit organizations are the Nation’s third-largest employer, employing more than 12,000,000 people and representing 5.6 percent of the United States overall gross domestic product.
Ninety-two percent of nonprofits are small and community-based, serving local needs.
Nonprofits are trusted community touchstones and allies in designing and implementing the work of government.
Without nonprofit partners, Federal programs would be run less efficiently and require more taxpayer dollars.
Referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
