Requires the Department of Defense to appoint a senior official to oversee and coordinate service members’ transitions from active duty to civilian life or reserve service. The designated official must have extensive veterans services experience, serve as the Department’s chief transition officer, oversee transition programs (including TAP and SkillBridge), coordinate with other federal and nonfederal partners, review and propose improvements to transition policies, and comply with legal requirements; the Secretary of Defense must brief congressional defense committees on implementation within 90 days.
Official title: To designate a senior official responsible for the management and oversight of all programs and activities of the Department of Defense related to the transition of members of the Armed Forces to civilian or reserve status, and for other purposes.
