Read twice and referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations.
This bill tells the U.S. State Department to work with Taiwan’s office in Washington, DC to change its name from “Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office” to “Taiwan Representative Office.” If the name changes, all U.S. laws, maps, and government papers that use the old name would be read as the new one. It also says the U.S. should treat the people of Taiwan like it treats other countries in everyday government dealings. At the same time, it makes clear this does not restart formal diplomatic relations or change the U.S. position on Taiwan’s international status .
