Makes dependents of certain reserve component members eligible to attend Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools located at the member’s permanent duty station when the member is on active service under an accompanied permanent change of station order. If the installation DoDEA school has space, the dependent is enrolled automatically on request; if not, the dependent is placed on a wait-list.
The bill improves on-base school access and reduces administrative burdens for eligible Reserve families relocating with dependents, but increases pressure on DoDEA capacity and may raise education costs for the Department of Defense and taxpayers.
Dependents of eligible Reserve members gain guaranteed access and automatic enrollment into on-base DoDEA schools when space exists, easing school placement during accompanied PCS moves and reducing relocation uncertainty for military families.
Students and parents benefit from an orderly wait-list process when schools are full, creating clearer expectations and fairer admissions compared with ad hoc enrollment.
Students and on-base schools may face increased demand that strains capacity, potentially causing larger class sizes or reduced per-student resources at some installations.
Taxpayers and defense priorities could face higher DoD education costs to accommodate expanded enrollment, which may require additional funding or reallocation of resources within the Department of Defense.
