This bill tells the Defense Department to give Congress a detailed report on the U.S.–Greece security relationship. The report is due within 120 days and goes to the House and Senate Armed Services Committees. It must cover what basing rights the U.S. has under the 2021 defense agreement with Greece, what the U.S. is doing and investing at those sites, what upgrades are needed at the Port of Alexandroupolis, whether more bases or an expanded U.S. presence (including on Greek islands) make sense, and how ongoing U.S.–Greece security programs under a 2022 law are going.
Congress notes that Greece is a key NATO ally in a strategic location. U.S. activities at places like Alexandroupolis, Larisa, Stefanovikio, and Souda Bay help with training, moving troops and equipment, and supporting naval operations in the region.
