Congratulations to Roshni Nagarankanti and Merissa Richey on earning the Congressional Award. More than 400 hours of volunteer service reflects an extraordinary commitment to others. I’m proud to recognize these outstanding young leaders from our district.

Medicaid spending is already up 9.7% this year and could finish in double digits while we borrow about $90,000 a second. At some point, we have to lower the cost of delivering care instead of asking taxpayers to pay more without people getting healthier.

This is exactly why I introduced the Combating Deceptive Practices in Assistance Programs Act. States should have to prove someone cannot perform at least three basic daily activities before taxpayers pay for Medicaid home care.

America spends about $25 BILLION a week just on interest. 25 cents of every tax dollar goes to interest, now the second-largest expense in the federal budget, ahead of Medicare and national defense. Keep borrowing like this and the bond market runs the country.
