The Market Development for Mushrooms and Pet Food proposed rule would create standards for organic mushroom production and organic pet food handling. For organic mushrooms, the proposed rule would clarify how the existing organic crop standards apply to mushroom production. Specifically, the proposed rule would provide substrate, compost, and spawn requirements for organic mushroom production. For organic pet food, the proposed rule would establish pet food as a processed product that must follow existing organic handling requirements. The proposed rule would also add synthetic taurine as an allowable ingredient in organic pet food.
