Kiwifruit Grown in California and Imported Kiwifruit; Modification of Handling Regulations

The [Kiwifruit Board] recommended/is announcing…..Section 920.52 provides authority for the establishment of handling regulations including the establishment of size and pack requirements for any variety or varieties of kiwifruit. This proposal is to modify Table 1 – Size Designation and Size Variation Chart by the following: • Add 2 new sizes: o Size 15, defined as a maximum number of 22 pieces of kiwifruit in an 8-pound sample, 1” size variation tolerance o Size 12, defined as a maximum number of 19 pieces of kiwifruit in an 8-pound sample, 1” size variation tolerance • For Size 18, increase the size variation tolerance (diameter) from 1/2” to 1” • For Size 45, increase the size variation tolerance (diameter) from 1/4” to 3/8” • Redefine Size 45 as a maximum number of 56 pieces of kiwifruit in an 8-pound sample. This proposal will slightly lower the minimum size requirement for kiwifruit, except for varieties of the Actinidia chinensis species which remain at a minimum size 49.
