Flexibility Enhancements of Weather Reporting Systems

The Federal Aviation Administration proposes to amend 14 CFR parts 1, 91, 121, and 135 by substituting weather reports from the National Weather Service with weather reports prepared by FAA and other sources approved by the Administrator. This action is necessary because the National Weather Service no longer provides weather reports in the capacity described in the relevant provisions of the regulations. The intended effect of this action is to remove outdated references and to maintain weather awareness in the National Airspace System.
