Description
NMFS implements an annual catch limit (ACL) of 493,000 lb and accountability measures (AMs) for Deep 7 bottomfish in the main Hawaiian Islands (MHI) for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 fishing years. To prevent the fishery from exceeding the ACL, NMFS would close the fishery in Federal waters for the remainder of the year if NMFS projects the fishery will reach the ACL. If annual catch exceeds the ACL, NMFS would reduce the ACL in the subsequent year by an amount equal to the overage. The proposed rule supports the long-term sustainability of this fishery.
