Integrated Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal

This rulemaking would amend the NRC’s regulations to require new and revised site-specific technical analyses and permit the development of site-specific criteria for low-level radioactive waste acceptance based on the results of these analyses. The rulemaking proposes to authorize the near-surface disposal of certain Greater-Than-Class C waste streams and provide for Agreement State licensing of these waste streams. Licensees of currently operating low-level radioactive waste facilities that do not plan to accept Greater-Than-Class C waste or significant quantities of long-lived radionuclides after the effective date of this rulemaking would continue to comply with current regulations.
