This bill would make it easier for parents, guardians, and caregivers to go past security and help a child or a traveler who needs assistance get to their flight. TSA would set up a system at all domestic airports so airlines can issue up to two gate passes to these helpers. If a helper already has TSA PreCheck, that status can be applied to the gate pass. For travelers who use a wheelchair, the caregiver who gets the pass must be the person pushing the wheelchair. TSA would have 180 days after the bill becomes law to put this system in place. Minors are defined as under 18, and “passengers needing assistance” includes people with mobility or health needs, like wheelchair users.
