Introduced on August 1, 2025 by Sydney Kamlager-Dove
This measure celebrates hip hop’s 50-year legacy and encourages communities to recognize its cultural impact. It sets special observance times to honor hip hop’s history, creativity, and contributions to music, dance, art, and education. It does not create new laws or spending; it simply calls for recognition and celebration.
It names three observances: August 11, 2025 as Hip Hop Celebration Day; all of August 2025 as Hip Hop Recognition Month; and November 2025 as Hip Hop History Month. These timeframes invite schools, libraries, museums, and local groups to host events, lessons, and showcases that highlight hip hop’s role in American life.
