Updates tax rules for deducting mileage when using a personal car. It keeps a general deduction rate of 14 cents per mile, but creates a special exception for volunteers who deliver meals to homebound people who are elderly, disabled, frail, or at risk. Those miles can be deducted at the higher standard mileage rate set by the IRS instead of 14 cents.
The change applies to miles driven on or after the date it becomes law. It aims to reduce out‑of‑pocket costs for volunteer meal delivery drivers and support programs that serve homebound residents.
