Adds a new paragraph (J) to subsection (a)(1) authorizing programs to purchase and operate unmanned aircraft systems (defined by reference to 49 U.S.C. 44801) to benefit public safety.
Redesignates existing paragraphs (23) and (24) as paragraphs (24) and (25), inserts a new paragraph (23) authorizing purchase and operation of unmanned aircraft systems (defined by reference to 49 U.S.C. 44801) to benefit public safety, and updates a cross-reference in the redesignated paragraph (24) from “(22)” to “(23)”.
Allows grant recipients under two federal public‑safety grant programs to use awarded funds to purchase and operate unmanned aircraft systems (drones) for public‑safety purposes. Also updates cross‑references and paragraph numbering in the statute governing the community policing (COPS) grant program to reflect the added authority.
