Read twice and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.
This bill would set up a new education aid program to help recruit and keep public safety officers by helping pay for college or job training. Aid would be paid directly to the student and based on the same payment rules used for certain veterans’ benefits. Officers could also choose to transfer some or all of their aid to their child. The Attorney General would run the program and decide applications, with priority for people who show financial need. Aid could be stopped if a student isn’t making satisfactory academic progress.
Key limits include a maximum of 45 months of full‑time benefits (less for part‑time) and, for children using transferred benefits, no payments after their 27th birthday. The bill allows funding “as needed” to carry out the program.
