Read twice and referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works.
This bill tells the Environmental Protection Agency to finish and put into effect a rule about E15 gasoline (gas with up to 15% ethanol) within 90 days. It chooses a specific labeling option for gas pumps from the earlier EPA proposal, so stations will follow one clear set of E15 pump label rules .
It also makes it easier for gas stations to use E15 by saying most existing underground fuel tanks count as compatible with E15, even if owners can’t find old paperwork. Steel and fiberglass tanks made after July 2005, plus all fiberglass reinforced plastic piping, are treated as compatible. If owners can show certain parts (like gaskets or seals) work with E15, they don’t have to replace other parts just to prove the whole system works. For new or replaced equipment after the rule takes effect, tanks and parts must be able to handle up to 100% ethanol, to give stations flexibility in the future .
