Referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Introduced August 15, 2025 by Shri Thanedar · Last progress August 15, 2025
Designates and supports recognizing "Indian Independence Day: A National Day of Celebration of the World’s Two Largest Democracies," sends greetings to the people of India on their 78th Independence Day, acknowledges the contributions of Americans of Indian descent, and affirms the value of the U.S.–India partnership for advancing democracy, peace, stability, and prosperity. It recalls India’s 1947 independence, Nehru’s flag-raising at the Red Fort, India’s democratic size and diversity, and cooperative ties in forums like the QUAD and I2U2.
The resolution is ceremonial and declaratory: it expresses U.S. support and recognition but does not create new programs, funding, or legal obligations. Its main effect is symbolic—honoring India, noting shared democratic values, and encouraging celebration and continued partnership.
