This bill would require the Department of Defense to give its firefighters free cancer screening and prevention services as part of their yearly health check, with extra testing when needed. It focuses on breast, colon, and prostate cancers, and also any other cancers that the CDC says are more common in firefighters. These services are optional, so firefighters can choose to opt out. Results must be reviewed by licensed medical professionals and shared with the firefighter. The Department can collect de-identified data to track trends and may share test data with the CDC to better understand cancer in firefighters, while protecting privacy.
