This bill, the Fine Arts Protection Act of 2025, orders a full checkup of the General Services Administration’s Fine Arts Program. Within one year of becoming law, the Comptroller General must start a review that will: survey every artwork; estimate the collection’s dollar value (including New Deal pieces); check how well the art is cared for; see if staffing and funding are enough; compare GSA’s approach to other big collections; and consider moving the collection if GSA keeps cutting staff and budget. Congress also notes that public art helps people preserve and understand history and that GSA holds one of the nation’s oldest and largest public art collections.
Within two years, the Comptroller General must send Congress a report with the findings and recommendations, including whether GSA should keep managing the collection.
