Families in WIC would be able to choose the kind of milk they get. A participant (or a parent/guardian) could pick nonfat, 1% low‑fat, 2% reduced‑fat, or whole milk, rather than being limited to only certain types. The U.S. Department of Agriculture would need to update WIC rules to reflect this change. The bill also notes that milk provides key nutrients for kids and says whole milk is considered helpful for children ages 1–2.
Today, most women and children age 2 and up in WIC are limited to nonfat or 1% milk, with exceptions; this proposal would expand those choices.
