Designates a restored segment of Florida’s Kissimmee River as part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, classified as a “recreational” river. The protected reach runs from about 16 miles downstream of Lake Kissimmee to about 15 miles upstream of Lake Okeechobee and will be managed by the Secretary of the Interior.
The designation protects the river’s free‑flowing condition and recreation values. Federal lands within the designated corridor are withdrawn from new mining claims and mineral leasing, subject to valid existing rights. This generally limits new federally assisted projects that would harm the river, while allowing typical recreational uses consistent with a “recreational” classification.
Referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources.
