Disapproving the action of the District of Columbia Council in approving the D.C. Income and Franchise Tax Conformity and Revision Temporary Amendment Act of 2025.
To lower the age at which a minor may be tried as an adult for certain criminal offenses in the District of Columbia to 14 years of age.
The bill increases accountability for serious juvenile offenses by allowing 14-year-olds to be tried in adult court while trading off greater exposure of young teens to adult penalties, reduced access to rehabilitative services, higher public costs, and risks of worsening racial and disability disparities.
Somalia Immigration Moratorium Act
The bill trades a clear, enforceable statutory authority to bar Somali nationals (simplifying adjudication for authorities and reducing some case-by-case litigation) against severe rights and humanitarian impacts on Somali nationals and families, likely diplomatic fallout, and new litigation and administrative costs for U.S. agencies and taxpayers.
Student Visa Integrity Act of 2026
The bill strengthens national-security screening, fraud enforcement, and centralized student-tracking — at the cost of reduced access and flexibility for many international students and training programs, higher compliance costs for schools and consulates, and increased privacy and due‑process risks.
Congressional Budget Office Scheduling Reform Act
The bill increases transparency and planning by requiring CBO to publish a predictable report schedule, trading modest staff costs and a risk of politicized scrutiny over report timing for better coordination and accountability.
EQUALS Act of 2025
The bill standardizes and clarifies probation and trial rules—improving administrative clarity and preserving shorter protections for preference-eligible hires—while extending default probation lengths and delaying appeal rights for many new hires, increasing job insecurity and administrative burdens for federal workers and agencies.
Expedited Removal of Criminal Aliens Act
The bill tightens and centralizes immigration enforcement—speeding detention and removal of people with certain convictions to boost public safety and administrative clarity—while significantly reducing due process and discretionary relief, increasing the risk of disparate impacts and higher detention and administrative costs.
Domestic Jobs Protection Act
Narrowing the statute's reference to a specific federal official may clarify intent for some readers but risks leaving enforcement responsibility unclear and inviting legal disputes that affect immigrants, employers, and government agencies.
Restoring Equal Opportunity Act
The bill reduces regulatory and litigation burdens for businesses and government by narrowing disparate-impact theories and certain federal interpretations, but in doing so it significantly curtails remedies and enforcement options for people harmed by neutral policies—especially protected and low-income communities—raising the risk of continued discrimination and inequality.
