Referred to the Committee on Ways and Means, and in addition to the Committees on Homeland Security, and the Judiciary, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
This bill, called the Securing our Border Act, would move all remaining unused IRS enforcement funds to border security uses. One-third would go to buy and install border scanners so that 100% of vehicles at northern and southern land ports are scanned by February 6, 2034. The other two-thirds would fund building a border wall system along the southwest border, and the Department of Homeland Security would have to send quarterly updates on its plan and costs .
It would also let U.S. Customs and Border Protection offer bonuses to hire, keep, and move agents: up to $15,000 for new hires after training, plus retention and relocation bonuses up to 15% of pay. These bonuses wouldn’t count toward retirement pay calculations. Finally, for people arriving from Mexico or Canada, the government would be required either to send them back to that country (or a safe third country) while their case is processed, or detain them while their asylum claim is reviewed.
